- Abstract
The article discusses the history of economic development in the Republic of Serbia from 1960s to the onset of the 2008 global financial crisis. After providing a literature review and mathematical model for economic growth, the author explains key characteristics in Serbia's development. He notes the development of market socialism and self-managing labor organizations in the 1960s when Serbia was a part of Yugoslavia, along with the subsequent decline in economic power due to a lack of state bureaucratic regulation in the 1980s. The development of capitalism following 1989 is then explained in terms of manufacturing production growth, privatization of financial institutions, and a loosening of fiscal policy, along with efforts to gain membership to the European Union (EU).
