- Abstract
The article presents an overview of conjoint analysis and illustrates its application in health education research. It argues for the development of utility-responsive health promotion programs. Selected attributes of a smoking cessation program is used to illustrate key features of conjoint analysis. Conjoint analysis operates on the basic premise that the overall value a user assigns to a product or service is a function of the utility or importance values assigned to each of its attributes. The article suggests that this theory and research, along with the theoretical underpinnings for community interventions, and current health promotion program development models or frameworks can be used for integrating the science of consumer behavior with the science of health behavior change.
