- Title
The mental health consultation in General Practice—GPs could do more in the time they have.
- Authors
Doe, Niccolo
- Abstract
This article discusses the challenges faced by General Practitioners (GPs) in providing effective mental health consultations within the time constraints of a 10-minute appointment. The author suggests that increasing the time allocated for consultations or recruiting more GPs could help address this issue. Alternatively, the author proposes the use of screening questions or a "mental health clerking proforma" to gather information from patients before the consultation, allowing GPs to focus on exploring the patient's issues during the appointment. The article emphasizes the need for innovative solutions as mental health problems become more prevalent in a complex patient population. The study was funded by departmental resources and there are no conflicts of interest reported.
