In an accessible form, the book presents profiles and activities of ten Białystok voivodes holding office between 1919 and 1944. Based on their biographies, the militarization of administration in Poland after 1926 is apparent. The publication is a valuable study of representatives of the regional power elite (official elite), their political choices and their fate after the end of the war in a country dominated by the communist party.
