- Title
How Many Feminists Does It Take to Screw in a Light Bulb?
- Authors
Kaplan, Brett Ashley
- Abstract
The article focuses on how Philip Roth's return to William Butler Yeats's "Leda and the Swan" at the end of "Portnoy's Complaint" takes the structural position of Leda, uncovers the anxieties of Jewish masculinity. It mentions Roth satirizes Portnoy to the same degree as he does "The Monkey," "The Pumpkin" and "The Jewish Pumpkin." It also mentions Roth's readers can square the enjoyment of his stunning prose with the problematics of the representation of women.
