- Title
Struggles for Self‐Determination: The Denial of Reactionary Statehood in Africa.
- Abstract
Katanga was a breakaway secessionist territory, Rhodesia a renegade British settler colony that opposed black majority rule, and the latter two polities were manifestations of South African Apartheid policy. Two particularly fascinating trajectories are that of Rowan Cronjé, a cabinet member in both Rhodesia and Bophuthatswana, and Ron Reid-Daly, a military commander of the Rhodesian Selous Scouts and subsequently the Transkei Defence Force. I Struggles for Self-Determination i links the futile quests for international recognition of four "pseudo-states": Katanga, Rhodesia, Transkei and Bophuthatswana.
