- Abstract
We congratulate Professors Finkelstein and Cha (F&C) for calling attention about some fundamental questions regarding the concept of virtual age. While F&C arguments are appealing and thought provoking, as practitioners, we were not convinced that the models they propose would be more adequate to analyze real datasets than those we are currently using. Usually, but not always (see Equations (3) and (9) in F&C, for instance), this distribution is specified through its risk function HT <math display="inline" altimg="urn:x-wiley:asmb:media:asmb2591:asmb2591-math-0001" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi> </mi><mo>(</mo><msub><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>m</mi></mrow></msub><mspace width="0.3em" /><mo>|</mo><mspace width="0.3em" /><msub><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>1</mn></mrow></msub><mo>,</mo><mi>...</mi><mo>,</mo><msub><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>m</mi><mo form="prefix">-</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msub><mo>)</mo></mrow></math> ht .
