- Abstract
The objective of this work was to determine the emergence of carioca common bean seeds under water stress conditions. The experiment was carried out in the nursery sector of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Sinop - MT. The experimental design employed was randomized complete blocks with four replications and eight treatments. The treatments consisted of the time between sowing and the start of watering: 0 (watering right after sowing); 2; 4; 6; 8; 10; 12 and 14 days after sowing. The germination rate was evaluated; number of emerged seeds; stem height; stem diameter; number of sheets; leaf area; root and shoot dry matter. It was noted a reduction of seeds emerged during treatments due to the longer period of water deficit. In the evaluations referring to the stem height, it was observed greater plant development of the initial treatments and no effect was observed about stem diameter. There was a gradual reduction along the treatments in the number of leaves and, in addition, about leaf area, there was a linear decrease in relation to the increase of days without receiving the water depth. For root dry matter there was a small reduction on treatments average that suffered greater water stress in relation to the control. For shoot dry matter the treatments that suffered a longer period of water stress presented a significant growth reduction compared to the initial treatments. So, the water stress soon after the sowing of common bean, in dry soil, interference the vegetative growth of the future plants.
