- Abstract
The article presents a case study of six male patients with primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) caused by Naegleria fowleri in intensive care unit (ICU) in Karachi, Pakistan. Clinical examination of five patients showed confusion, disorientation and irritability, while one of the patients presented with deep coma, hypotention and low oxygen saturation. The patients were treated with Amphotericin B and oral Rifampicin, but all died within three to seven days of hospital admission.
