- Abstract
By analyzing the current world agricultural scenario, it is possible to see the need to think and develop a new paradigm that meets the production of safe, healthy and sustainable food, whether for a family, community or society. This university extension project aimed to disseminate agroecology and contribute to the promotion of food security and sovereignty through the implementation and management of a home garden at the Três Passos Charity Hospital Association (TPCHA)/Rio Grande do Sul (RS). For the development of this proposal, several activities were carried out during 2017 until the end of 2019 at TPHCA, with the participation of the academic community of Uergs Três Passos Unit and other work partners. Activities were carried out such as interviews, implementation, management and expansion of the vegetable garden, renovation and construction of flower beds, planting vegetables, among other actions aimed at disseminating learning integrated with sustainable practice and valuing the potential of the site, based on the premise basic in all actions, promote sustainability and food safety of the hospital community and environmental valuation. The main results can be highlighted the production of healthy and quality food, the diffusion of agroecology and the promotion of food safety, the enhancement of the environment, and social integration in the Celeiro Region of RS, in addition to the University-society integration.
