- Abstract
The objective of this work was to describe the first two years of food and nutrition actions developed with the public assisted by "Pastoral da Criança". The actions of the extension project consisted of meetings where themes were worked about health and Food and Nutrition Education of interest to the participants. For the meetings, printed materials on the subject were prepared for the participants to follow. In addition, doubts were clarified and a space for sharing experiences was opened. The audience reached at the meetings were mothers/companions, children and pregnant women assisted by "Pastoral da Criança". Every quarter, the children's weight and height were measured for nutritional monitoring by Pastoral. The measured data were also used in the project to know the children's nutritional status. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, it was not possible to hold face-to-face meetings. Therefore, in discussion with the neighborhood coordinator to maintain contact with the community, materials were prepared on food, COVID-19 and care to be taken during this period. In some meetings, audiovisual means were used as a complementary approach to the topic. The nutritional status of most children was adequate according to the evaluated index, but overweight was also found. The importance of carrying out the project is observed both for the community and for students and professors. For the community, the project provided a space for sharing experiences and knowledge, in addition to creating autonomy to choose healthy habits. For students and professors, the project enabled personal growth in addition to adding to their training.
