- Title
La sociedad fragmentada: «activismo societario» y autoridad en el socialismo de Estado de la RDA.
- Authors
Lindenberger, Thomas
- Abstract
In the GDR, as in many Communist dictatorships, there was a paradox of evident illegitimate rule but growing compliance under the population and a curious difference between the high potential of state violence and the relative stability and peacefulness of everyday life. In order to explain it, the author explores two key concepts from sociology and historical anthropology: Herrschaft als soziale Praxis (authority as social practice) and Eigen-Sinn (stubborness/sense of one's self). As an example of this approach, he analyses one highly specific trait of state socialist societies: the eminent significance of so-called «societal activismo».
