- Abstract
Nazım Hikmet creates a fantastic love between Monna Lisa --one of the painting figures of Leonardo da Vinci- and Chinese Si-Ya-U in his long poem entitled Joconde and Si-Ya-U. Then, he publishes this long poem as a selfcontained book. Si-Ya-U whom the poet met with in real life in Moscow is an insistent visitor of Mona Lisa painting in Louvre Museum. At the same time Si- Ya-U, who is a revolutionary joins in 1 May demonstrations in Paris. When he is deported from France, the painting figure of young woman gets out of her frame in one-dimension and fallows him to China. Jokond who gets dimension takes on his ideological cause when her lover Si-Ya-U is killed in front of her eyes. However, she is also destroyed by burning. Jokond and Si-Ya-U can be accepted as Nazım Hikmet's poetic verse. The poet emphasizes with this poem that concept of beauty is meaningless alone in poetry and art.
