- Abstract
The article discusses various aspects of an outbreak of the intraocular infection endogenous fungal endophthalmitis (EFE) among intravenous drug abusers in New England, and it mentions treatment regimens, patient demographics, and comorbidities. Visual acuities and the pathogen Candida albicans are examined, along with intraocular inflammation, toxoplasmosis, sarcoidosis, and Bartonellosis. Ophthalmologists and fungemia are assessed, along with EFE diagnoses.
