The article discusses the roles that free medical clinics play in American society fifty years after the nation underwent a counter-culture revolution involving drugs, rock 'n' roll music, and sexual behavior in the 1960s. Dr. David Smith's Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic in San Francisco, California is addressed, along with the U.S. National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (NAFC), health insurance coverage, and America's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
