- Title
Patient-Specific Stem Cells and Cardiovascular Drug Discovery.
- Authors
Mordwinkin, Nicholas M.; Lee, Andrew S.; Wu, Joseph C.
- Abstract
The authors contend that advances in induced pluripotent stem cells- cardiomyocytes (iPSC-CM) offers opportunity to improve preclinical drug discovery. The advantages of iPSC-CM over animal and in vitro cell expression models are discussed including exhibiting certain disease processes at the single cell level. They point out the limitations of ex vivo toxicity screening assays for human translation and their inaccuracy in predicting the potential toxic effects of drugs in patients.
