- Title
Neuroprotection for Premature Infants?: Another Perspective on Caffeine.
- Authors
Maitre, Nathalie L.; Stark, Ann R.
- Abstract
The authors offer perspectives on neuroprotective effect of caffeine in premature infants. According to the authors, caffeine could exert its neuroprotective effect by improving the brain's inherent recuperative abilities. The authors admit they are not surprised about caffeine's lack of effect on the Intelligent Quotient (IQ) of preterm infant at school age. They believe long-term follow-up is critical for reaching accurate conclusions about the efficacy of new therapies in preterm infants.
