- Title
Enzyme catalysis: C-H activation is a Reiske business.
- Authors
Bruner, Steven D.
- Abstract
The article focuses on RedG, a Reiske-type oxygenase capable of catalyzing chemically challenging cyclizations during biosynthesis of natural products such as streptorubin B. It mentions that RedG is capable of oxidative cyclization through the activation on carbon-hydrogen and shows association with Reiske-type oxygenases. It adds that enzymes including RedG, which oxidize unactivated carbon-hydrogen bonds, have the capability to construct complex molecules in an efficient manner. It says that when genes mcpG was introduced to a redG mutant of S. Coelicolor, the redG gene is replace with mcpG. Moreover, it recommends that further studies should be undertaken to characterize the reaction course and the metal centres of RedG.
