- Abstract
The article discusses the collective memory of Japanese Canadian children prior to World War II, the politics of redress for the hardship experienced by Japanese Canadians, and the creation of narratives in time for the celebration of the 1977 centennial of the arrival of the first Japanese in Canada. Several historical accounts are considered including the book "The Enemy That Never Was," by Ken Adachi, the creation of Japanese language schools, and the publication of Japanese newsletters.
