- Title
Not Quitting Brokeback.
- Authors
Schneider Jr., Richard
- Abstract
The essay focuses on the social impact and financial success of Ang Lee's motion picture "Brokeback Mountain." Although the movie had crossover appeal in the gay and straight communities, it did not win the Oscar for Best Picture. The cognitive dissonance in the film and spontaneous nature of love are mentioned as the important universal messages in "Brokeback Mountain." Gay men contributed to the box office earnings by seeing the movie more than once. The author suggests that many men identified with the two characters and their struggle.
