- Abstract
Crossbred cows were screened for sub-clinical hypocalcemia during transition period. Sub-clinical hypocalcemia accounted for 45.74 percent cows screened with serum calcium value less than 8 mg/dL (7.11 ±0.09 mg/dL) with significant increase in BHBA (1.32±0.29 mmol/L) and serum urea nitrogen levels (20.36±2,41 mg/dL) compared to healthy animals. Serum magnesium and glucose values did not vary significantly with healthy cows. In the study out of 43 cows with sub-clinical hypocalcemia, 34 cows (79.10 percent) had sub-clinical hypocalcemia along with other clinical/ sub-clinical conditions like sub-clinical ketosis, mastitis, dystocia and retention of placenta, uterine prolapse, udder edema, laminitis, vaginal prolapse, uterine torsion and metritis.
