- Authors
Noll, Franklin
- Abstract
The article presents an historical overview of the federally run thrift and securities sector during the Great Depression in the United States. Details are given contextualizing the general distrust and market behaviors which were keeping money out of the banking sector as well as describing how Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt implemented several initiatives and programs to re-engage public finance and credit markets. The creation and public management of savings bonds, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and their public advocacy are each discussed in turn.
