- Abstract
The article focuses on instances of mass public defiance of legal authority in the U.S. based on a belief that it is unjust or simply wrong, sometimes but not always to provoke legal reform. Topics discussed include background of the establishment of the Magna Carta in 1215, which is one of the most notable instances of public defiance in English history, information on the American Revolution, which is an example of defiance of legal authority, and overview of Shay's Rebellion.
