A clinical experience from about forty-five years ago is recounted in which a patient suffering from hysterical paralysis of the legs was treated with a brief suggestive intervention which allowed him to regain the use of his lower limbs. The therapist had no experience of hypnosis, and the intervention, which lasted about twenty minutes, was improvised, employing various suggestive techniques and also including attempts to interpret unconscious conflicts.
