- Abstract
Since teachers belong to the voice and speech professions, they are persons at risk of developing voice disorders. In the German-speaking countries voice disorders do not belong to the occupational illnesses, therefore voice trainings to prevent voice disorders are in high demand as professional development. In setting-based approaches to health promotion and prevention, voice training conceptions must account for teachers' communicative behavior as well as their occupational setting. The training approach should be oriented towards the resources and strategies teachers use during their work. Standard practices of voice hygiene and effi ciency should be individualized to a specifi c teacher in a specifi c communicative situation. Voice trainings can be offered both as on-the-job-training and as in-house training in schools. Quality voice trainings are oriented towards the professional routine of teachers, include coaching, impart knowledge for preventing noise, and evaluation of effectiveness.
