- Title
Internal Derangements: A Comment on the Need for Diagnostic Homogeneity.
- Authors
Butterworth, Jere C.; Deardorff, William W.
- Abstract
Although there have been several attempts to standardize the classification of internal derangements, they have been largely unsuccessful. The present article discusses the variance in diagnostic rates across several craniomandibular pain clinics and suggests that this may be due to two factors: an inadequate nosology for the classification of internal derangements and the influence of a clinics treatment orientation on the diagnosis of internal derangements. The discussion suggests a need for diagnostic homogeneity in this area and proposes a future research direction.
