- Abstract
The article discusses a research study conducted by the Jesuit Refugee Service which examined alternatives to detention in Belgium, Germany and Great Britain. The researchers observed problems related to the asylum and immigrations systems. Six characteristics that are deemed important for the well-functioning of the alternatives to detention are inferred from the investigation that includes the need for migrants to have access to decent housing, information and legal assistance.
