- Abstract
The article focuses on the neighbourhood watch programs to prevent crime in Victoria. The program is implemented in March 1984 as a concrete measure to deal with the problem of rising residential burglary incidents. Its major thrust is to reduce opportunity for crime by improving the awareness of citizens about public safety, improving the attitudes of residents in reporting crime, and reducing vulnerability to crime. The police reports that by May 1985, residential burglaries in neighbourhood watch areas have declined by 30 percent due to the program.
