The article presents the author's views on the current state of French theater and the role of French dramatist Paul Claudel. It is argued that the theater has forgotten the long dialogues of ancient, rich tragedies, and the tragic sense of dramatic art which purify the soul silently. It is stated that the new mystery, towards which modern theater seems to be heading, must be the development of tragedy.
