- Authors
BEIBEI CHEN
- Abstract
A literary criticism of Australian author Brian Castro's novel "Shanghai Dancing" is presented. Topics covered include the use of the concept of cosmopolitan memory to challenge a notion of identity within nation-state and community, the relationship between memory and identity, and ways in which a fictional autobiography can dispute the idea of identity defined by ethnicity and nationality. Also mentioned are the theory of cosmopolitanism and apprehension of collective memory across borders.
