- Authors
Hallemeier, Katherine
- Abstract
The article explores the importance of hybrid identity and autobiography in the essay "The Secrets of Ethnic Abjection" by theorist Rey Chow and the novel "Shanghai Dancing" by author Brian Castro. The idea of hybridity as a state of marginalisation and otherness is discussed, and abjection, defined as introducing ambiguity and troubling the established order, is theorized as being a result of hybridity.
