- Abstract
Self-esteem can be defined as the feeling of value towards oneself, related to our way of being, of a set of characteristics related to the mental, physical and spiritual that make up our personality. Likewise, healthy living habits correspond to cus toms, attitudes and behaviors that people adopt in daily life. The objective of the study was to identify the levels of self-esteem compared to the healthy living habits of university students in the area of health and pedagogy of a private university in Santiago de Chile. The sample consisted of 340 university students in the area of health and pedagogy made up of 241 female students (70.9%) and 99 male students (29.1%). It is a comparative descriptive study, where the Rosenberg self-esteem test and a healthy lifestyle habits questionnaire that inquires about the consumption of tobacco, drugs, alcohol and frequency of physical activity are applied. The results, the students presented medium and high levels of self-esteem in physical education. The results obtained highlight the importance of generating physical activity practice programs since the benefits of said practice are not limited to the physical environment, but also address psychological and social elements that promote greater global satisfaction.
