- Abstract
Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) emerge as one of the main causes of mortality in adults, especially cardiovascular diseases. One of the main causes for development is stress, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle. This stress factor is very present among nursing technicians, making them susceptible to heart disease. The present study aims to identify risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in nursing technicians at a teaching hospital. This is a descriptive research carried out from July to September 2019 with 41 nursing technicians from a hospital in Sobral-Ceará. It was carried out in two stages: observation of the participant and an individual interview with questions about cardiovascular risk factors, measurement of anthropometric measurements and systemic blood pressure. From the data collected, the risk factors were mentioned: 18 (43.9%) with moderate stress; 26 (63.41%) sedentary; 19 (46.34%) had a diet rich in fried foods; 17 (41.46%) were overweight. Regarding healthy habits: 23 (56.10%) consumed fruit daily; 33 (80.49%) had normal blood pressure levels and 26 (63.41%) did not use alcohol. The research made it possible to identify that the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease in technical nursing professionals were: stress, sedentary lifestyle, obesity and eating habits with excessive fried foods.
