- Title
SIGHTING/SITING/CITING THE CITY: THE CONSTRUCTION OF PARIS IN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY CINEMA.
- Authors
Durham, Carolyn A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the depiction of Paris, France in motion pictures made in the 21st century. The author comments on how the landscape of Paris is used in a self-referential manner in the motion picture "Before Sunset" and its depiction as a city both familiar and alien in the motion picture "The Bourne Identity." The motion picture "Kiss of the Dragon" comments on Paris' tourism industry and subverts romantic perceptions of the city. The author comments that images of Paris in the motion picture "The Truth About Charlie" are based on perceptions of the city created by other motion pictures, including French New Wave films.
