Abstract
The article focuses on a study which revealed that toxic algal blooms occur as a result of defense mechanisms activated by phytoplanktons to protect themselves from copepods. According to the author, copepodamides released by copepods affect the marine food chain and a diatom that produces the neurotoxin called domoic acid.
