- Abstract
The article discusses the partisan debate between the Federalist Party and Republican Party over U.S.'s Louisiana Purchase from France, the 1804-1806 Lewis and Clark Expedition (which is also referred to as the Corps of Discovery) and the westward territorial expansion of the U.S. An overview of the Federalists' perspective on the U.S. President Thomas Jefferson's policy of territorial expansion is provided. The partisan poem "On the Discoveries of Captain Lewis," by the U.S. Federalist Senator John Quincy Adams is discussed. The partisanship in regard to the explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark after their Expedition is also discussed.
