- Title
THE ANTIQUARIAN MUSIC MARKET IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY: FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A COLLECTOR.
- Authors
FLEMING, SIMON D. I.
- Abstract
The antiquarian music market can be something of a minefield for the individual collector. In the past, most collectors would have looked to the traditional auction house or interacted personally with a bookseller for new purchases. Today, whereas a number of dealers still specialize in music-related material, the Internet has revolutionized the book trade, enabling most merchants to trade online. A few still produce catalogs, either paper-based or online, but many rely on online auction sites such as eBay or book-specific Web sites to sell their items; in doing so, they make their offerings available to a world of collectors. This article seeks to explore the antiquarian music market in the twenty-first century drawing upon an individual collector's personal experience. It also provides advice on how a collector might locate such special materials and stand the best chance toward acquiring them at auction or from a dealer.
