- Title
COLUMBA OF SENS IN THE OLD ENGLISH MARTYROLOGY.
- Authors
Cross, J. E.
- Abstract
The article reports that the notice for Columba, virgin martyr of Sens, is extant in only one of the manuscripts of the "Old English Martyrology." It is incomplete at the beginning since the section begins the run of entries in the manuscript. Two Latin passions for the saint have been distinguished in the "Bibliotheca Hagiographica Latina," "Passio 1," and "Passio 2." Old English Martyrology mollifies the curt speech of Columba to the young man in the Latin, where she reminds him that the bear honors God unlike him, and offers the choice of conversion or death.
