- Abstract
The article cites a study which investigates the effect of materials written to a lower level of readability on the comprehension and achievement of high school biology students. There were 265 ninth and tenth graders from two high schools in Alamance County, North Carolina participated the study. A Fry Readability Analysis was used to determine how these students understand the biology textbooks assigned to them. The readability of these materials is lower than that of the biology textbooks intended for them.
