- Abstract
Grinding can be considered the most important unit operation in mineral processing due to its relevance in particle size reduction and degree of release of the mineral of interest for the consecutive stages of concentration. Semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) is differentiated by the use of the ore itself as part of the metal body charge. Among the various factors that can interfere with the stability of mobility, SAG can specifically mention the competence of minerals. The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the relationship between the hardness of the ore metaconglomerate and the reduction in productivity observed in SAG milling in a gold processing plant located in Mato Grosso. The industrial tests were carried out with mobile crushing and screening equipment in two configurations with pass-through and scalp samples collected for analysis of gold content and Bond Working Index (BWI). The results obtained demonstrate that the test with a 38 mm scalp increased productivity by 22% while the test with a 95 mm scalp increased it by 16%. Furthermore, the results suggest the potential of the evaluated circuits as an ore classification method.
