- Abstract
The processing of cassava, a plant of dicotyledonous origin of the family Eufhorbiaceae genus Monihot and species esculenta Crantz, used in the production of water flour by hand, requires a large amount of water, especially in fermentation processes. In these processes considerable amounts of highly toxic waste are generated. This initiative arose from the need to evaluate the environmental impacts generated by the production of water flour in rivers of the village of Murutinga, in the municipality of Abaetetuba, interior of Pará. The objective was to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of surface water systems (igarapés). potentially used for cassava deposition. In this study we analyzed the parameters Acidity, pH, color, turbidity, and temperature. All analyzes were conducted in triplicate. Data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey test at 5% significance level, for comparison of means. The results show that there is variability in the water quality that occurs in this stream, the pH and the temperature present statistical differences mainly upstream. Color assessments demonstrate significant interference in the APFD step. In addition, the increased turbidity in the APFD stage reinforces the large release of both HCN, CN-, acetone, among others. Thus, the data obtained require attention, since chronic exposure to low concentrations of HCN is related to diseases that affect residents.
