- Abstract
Objective: the occurrence of falls in the elderly, in the city of Picos, Piauí (PI). Method: An observational, cross-sectional, population-based study carried out from March 2018 to July 2021. The sample population was 143 elderly people. Data were collected using forms and inferential analysis was performed using the IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 26 statistical program. Association analysis was performed using Fisher's Exact Test and the Odds Ratio. A binary regression model was also developed, in which an independent variable that presented a value of p<0.5 was inserted. All analyzes were based on a confidence level of 95% and a significance level of 5%. Results: In relation to episodes of falls, 38.5% said they had suffered a fall. There was a probability between smoking and the occurrence of falls (p< 0.032 and OR= 2.258). Conclusion: The research findings demonstrate the need to develop strategies aimed at this public regarding the prevention of to provide greater well-being to this public that is vulnerable to this condition.
