- Abstract
Salt tolerance index (STI) was calculatedas the mean of STTIs to be 89.20, 82.16and 76.45% for plant height, number oftillers/plant and number of leaves/plant,respectively, and the values were recordedin Table (5). Salt tolerance trait index (STTI) Salt tolerance trait index (STTI)was calculated following Ali et al. (2007),salt tolerance index (STI) was calculatedas the mean of STTIs for plant height, number of tillers/plant and number ofleaves/plant. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) isthe most essential cereal cropcultivated around the world and is a memberof the Poaceae (Gramineae) grassfamily (Mahmud et al., 2018). Large variations could be observedfor proline accumulation among the 12wheat RILs and between their parents, andthe results of estimation of proline contentconfirmed the results obtained on themorphological and the molecular levelsand indicated that there must be a relationshipbetween proline accumulation andsalt tolerance mechanisms in wheat.
