- Authors
TAKI, VICTOR
- Abstract
The article looks at Russian military officers' experiences of war during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Particular focus is given to discursive techniques used in these officers' writings to help them cope with the traumatizing aspects of their experiences. Details on encounters with the Ottoman empire and on the Russian War of 1812 are presented. According to the author, Russian officers sought both to denounce unrestrained violence in war and to aestheticize combat.
