- Abstract
Few studies about the Naskapis of Kawawachikamach exist and even fewer about their program to assist in hunting, fishing and trapping. This program, however, has existed for almost four decades and has been helping and supporting those Naskapis who do not have the means to practice traditional subsistence activities as well as supplying members of the community with game and fish. Has the program’s operation and its activities changed over the years? Is it still a key element of the Naskapis’ identity strategy? This article responds to these questions by presenting an overview of this program.
