- Abstract
The article "Spaces of Cultural Democracy in the Context of the Climate Crisis" deals with experimental spaces at the intersection of art, education, and research in relation to the climate crisis. It emphasizes that ecological and economic transformations, as well as a societal change towards sustainable development, are necessary. The research project "Spaces of Cultural Democracy" has developed experimental spaces that enable collective negotiation processes on the topics of the climate crisis and sustainable development. A democracy-oriented concept of art and culture, as well as the concept of cultural democracy, are discussed. The project "Pop-Up Storytelling Labs" aims to engage people in conversations about sustainability and collect stories about a projected future. The Pop-Up Storytelling Labs create unexpected situations for encounters and allow marginalized people to raise their voices. The text deals with the expectations and uncertainties of visitors in the context of art, as well as the different conditions and requirements of artistic work in different spaces. It emphasizes that cultural production does not only consist of labeling something as art, but rather in developing relationships in the context of creative work. The text concludes by emphasizing the importance of cultural practice and cultural production in educational and outreach contexts, as well as the need for open and process-oriented meeting places for a democratic society.
