- Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyze the global and sustainable scenario of the European Union from an ethical perspective. For this, the situation of agriculture and the role of agrobiotechnology are examined. The predominance of economic growth over sustainability and globalization over integration itself is discussed. The European Union protects its highly subsidized agricultural products and it is developing third countries that suffer the inequities of a free market. The purchase of raw materials for feed and agrofuels have serious environmental effects also in third countries in Latin America. The appearance of the green parties is justified in the attempt to advance in environmental problems. Low economic growth persists in the region, accompanied by an Eastern Europe that seeks economic consolidation; the northern countries and their remarkable technological advance; and the southern countries overcoming their lags. It highlights the attempt to overcome inequities for the survival of the European Union and achieve a zone of advanced regional integration in the political, socio-economic and sustainable areas.
