- Abstract
The properties of hepatitis-B-virus and the transmission of the infection are described. Our own data suggest that the clinical course of infection depends on the degree of the individual immune response. Besides a complete remission and a development of chronic hepatitis, a fulminant course with hepatic coma can also be observed. Suppression of the immune response, however, results in an atypical viremia without an inflammatory reaction. The determination of viral antigen-antibody systems in the blood provides dependable information about the degree and course of the infection.
