- Abstract
Each student presents a unique challenge to a Yoga teacher. By approaching our students as individuals—taking the time to get to know them, understanding their physical and psychological needs, and acknowledging what they hope to gain from the practice—we can meet the challenge of communicating Yoga in a meaningful and accessible way. Ultimately, each of our students will offer us the opportunity to redefine our own interpretations of the practice and dig a little deeper for new ways of doing things. This article recalls my own such experience teaching a seventy-three year-old Yoga student recovering from a severe left-hemispheric stroke and learning to cope with ‘right hemiplegia.’
