- Abstract
To evaluate the soothing efficacy of cosmetics, the LPS-induced macrophage model, SDS-induced zebrafish embryo model and the clinical assessment were used and compared. The results showed that, for the two essences applied, the concentrations of NO and IL-6 were significantly reduced in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. The inhibition rates of NO-release were 85.87% and 84.57%, while for IL-6 were 44.18% and 38.76%, respectively. Compared with the negative control group, the difference was significant (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the rotating of zebrafish embryos for the groups applied with the two essences was significantly decreased by 51.85% and 76.54% when using SDS-induced zebrafish embryo model. In the 28 days of clinical assessment (the two essences were applied continually), the moisture content of stratum corneum was significantly increased by 55.56% and 39.61%, while the erythema was significantly reduced by 4.75% and 6.68%. This work indicated that the three evaluation methods of soothing efficacy were all effective and could be used in the evaluation of cosmetics.
